How did we meet?

Alice: We met in high school. Freshman year. We were in the same lunch group but weren't really that close until junior/senior year.

Luke: We met at TJ when I started eating lunch with the group of Congressional kids.

What was our first date?

Alice: What counts as a date? I didn't think of most of the things we've done together as dates-- to me it was just having fun doing whatever or just being with my favorite guy. But if walking around the mall together counts, maybe that would be our first date.

Luke: Just going to Tyson's and hanging out. I'm not sure that I could point to any particular visit as the first date but one of the times at the mall would probably be it

What's the proposal story?

Alice: We went on a day trip to France and Switzerland in the beginning of January this year. Going in, I was actually 99% sure he was going to propose some time during the trip. He had been asking me about rings and weddings an unusual amount in the few months leading up to it, and if he was going to propose eventually anyway it would have been a shame to pass up on the opportunity to do it in France/Switzerland. We were in Zurich and looking for things to do. I guess it was my turn to find an activity so after some Googling I suggested a park on a hill with a nice view for us to go to. That became the location of the proposal that I had mostly forgotten about until he started stalling for time and being nervous. It was making me nervous now. But he turned me around so he could pull out the ring and get on a knee behind me, although I was 100% sure of what he was doing anyway. Of course I said yes. I hope his nervousness wasn't from not knowing my response. My answer was always going to be yes.

Luke: We were on our trip to France and Switzerland and I was planning to propose in Zermatt (at the base of the Matterhorn). Unfortunately when we arrived in Zermatt there was a huge blizzard and we ended up not being able to even really get to Zermatt due to the roads and railways being closed. Then the plan was to propose on top of a mountain overlooking Zurich but it was all foggy the day we went up and you couldn't see anything. Then finally I just started going on walks around Zurich looking for somewhere nice and found a park that was kind of overlooking the city and decided to do it there.

What is our most memorable experience together so far?

Alice: Hmm... Well when we were in Switzerland we almost got trapped in Zermatt by a blizzard and then were stuck in Tasch instead with piles of snow everywhere and nothing much to do. But I enjoyed watching Stranger Things all day with him in our hotel room. Also, this isn't a single experience and it probably won't sound very memorable, but he'd come visit me at Cornell every few weeks for the past four years. Sometimes we'd drive back to RPI, and those 3-hour drives to RPI with him were arguably the highlights of every semester.

Luke: When we were in Switzerland and got snowed in and almost trapped by a blizzard. We accidentally took the train too far and ended up in Zermatt in the middle of a blizzard. We immediately got back on a train heading back to Tasch and ended up making it back without any problem. Later that evening we found out that the train had stopped running about an hour later due to risk of avalanche and if we had waited any longer we would have been stuck in Zermatt rather than where our hotel was.
